Pete Klassen is a Canadian musical artist from small town British Columbia, Canada. He has been involved in musical activities from an early age eventually earning a handful of musical and academic awards in his adult life.
He graduated from the University of Calgary in 2012 at the top of his class earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in the faculty of Communication and Culture. During his time in post-secondary education he received Mount Royal University's 2009 Inspiring Culture Award for actively promoting multi-culturalism on campus through the performance of Japanese music and language exchange activities.
This furthered his passion for the various forms of human artistic expression and he took a particular liking to the artistic history of East Asia. Upon graduation he promptly moved to Japan where he enrolled in talent school to train his voice and acting skills. Pete then grew a successful 6 year career in Japan as a vocalist, lyricist and film actor for various agencies. His vocals and lyrics were published in numerous TV commercials, video games, and musical releases by Japanese artists as well as hundreds of live performances all over the country with highly esteemed Japanese and foreign artists such as Galneryus, Saber Tiger, and Steelheart.
Pete co-released 2 EPs and 1 full length album with his Japanese band, Silex which were received incredibly well by both Japanese fans and industry peers as they toured Japan relentlessly. Silex's single "Standing on the Grave of Yesterday" went on to be a theme song in the popular Japanese anime, Kengan Ashura.
Pete ultimately realized his dream to collaborate with Japanese artists when he co-founded Japanese comedy rock act, Tokyo Spandixxx with former members of SEX MACHINEGUNS, Clutch J. Himawari and Circuit V. Panther, of whom he had been long time fan. They went on to release 2 mini-albums and performed twice monthly in the greater Tokyo area.
Pete returned to Canada in 2018 and joined JUNO Award winning musical act Striker as their new bassist and background vocalist. He completed 3 major North American tours and one international festival with the band performing alongside long established American acts such as Exodus, Steel Panther, and Death Angel. He also contributed to the release of Striker's latest recording, Live in the Studio and performed with the band at the 70,000 Tons Of Metal cruise festival. He continues to write, record, and perform with Striker who has been one of his favorite Canadian groups for some time.
Pete continues to hone and explore his songwriting and recording skills in his home studio fitted with an acoustically treated vocal booth and up to date digital recording gear. He is passionate about exploring cross-cultural genres and lyrics, and believes that the human condition is at the heart of all artistic creation. His experience abroad has been extremely valuable to him musically and culturally as he learned about different ways of life, world views, and approaches to songwriting and performing. He finds inspiration in this experience and exploration of culture and is eager to mix and share Canadian art with the world.
